In the beginning of November 2004, KI’s Vice President Mindy Sterling will be going to Ghana to participate in a conference focused on “Food & Safety in Developing Countries, the Role of the Veterinarian” She will be joined by KI board member Jarra Jagne and they will be traveling to the small village of Yua, 14 hours from the conference in Accra (capitol of Ghana). Yua is the birthplace of Dr. Anthony Akunzule, the director of KI programs in Ghana. He helps KI immensely in defining the needs of that village and how we can best help them to help themselves. The promotion of self-sufficiency is always a major goal of our organization. Jarra and Mindy will be monitoring the progress of the programs in place and also spend time listening to the feedback of the villagers regarding future help.

Benefits
The villages that we prefer to work in are extremely remote. In Ghana, we are involved in the dawn of a new era of animal power for the village of Yua and hopefully for many of those who attend this major conference. Gentle handling is a new concept there and fortunately for us endorsed by several agricultural efforts. KI has the opportunity to present our message in this venue, adding credibility to our cause on a scale that would not have otherwise been available.
